Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Solar & Battery Guide ("we", "us") collects when you use solarandbatteryguide.com, how we use it and the choices you have. The short version: we collect very little, we do not run analytics unless you agree to it, our calculators send nothing to us, and we do not sell or share personal information.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Contact form. Your name, email address, the topic you choose, your message and the site language. The form posts to our server, which forwards the message to our team inbox. We use it only to read and answer you and to act on what you report.
• Newsletter. Your email address, the site language, the page where you signed up and your consent to receive the monthly email. Our server forwards this to our team inbox so we can add you to our mailing list.
• Emails you send us. Whatever you choose to include.

Please do not send sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, account numbers or full utility bills. We do not need it.

Information collected automatically

• Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. When your browser requests a page, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time, to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We do not use these logs to build profiles of individual readers.
• Analytics. No analytics service is active on the site today. If we add one, it will load only after you accept analytics in our cookie banner, and this policy will name the provider before it goes live.
• Browser storage. We store a few essential preferences in your browser's local storage (theme, recent searches, checklist progress and your cookie choice). These stay on your device and are not sent to us. Our cookie policy lists them.

Information we do not collect

Our calculators run entirely in your browser. The bill amounts, rates, system sizes and other numbers you enter are not sent to our server or anyone else. We do not ask for your address, phone number or financial account details, and we do not run advertising or tracking pixels.

How we use information

We use personal information only to:

• answer your messages and fix issues you report;
• send the newsletter you asked for;
• keep the site secure and working;
• comply with the law.

We do not use your information for targeted advertising, and we do not make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA. We disclose information only to service providers that help us run the site, under their own privacy and security commitments, and only for those purposes:

• Cloudflare, which hosts the site and runs the server functions that receive form submissions;
• the email services we use to receive messages and send the newsletter.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a transfer of the site to a new owner who agrees to honor this policy.

How long we keep it

• Contact messages: only as long as needed to resolve your request and any follow-up, then deleted.
• Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe. After that, we remove it from the active list.
• Hosting logs: retained by Cloudflare under its own retention schedule; we do not export or keep copies.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California and other states with privacy laws, you may have the right to:

• know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
• get a copy of it;
• correct it;
• delete it;
• opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, and of targeted advertising;
• not be treated differently for using these rights.

An authorized agent can make a request for you with written permission. We will respond within 45 days, as California law requires, and usually much sooner. If we decline a request, we will explain why.

Global Privacy Control

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. If your browser sends one, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. Because we do not sell or share personal information today, there is nothing extra to switch off, but if we ever add analytics or advertising, a GPC signal will be applied as an opt-out automatically. Children

The site is intended for adults making home energy decisions. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them, in line with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS. Form submissions are checked to come from our own pages and filtered for spam. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so please send only what you are comfortable sharing.

Links to other sites

Our guides link to official sources such as the IRS, NREL and state regulators. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply when you visit them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of the page. If a change affects how we use information you already gave us, such as adding an analytics provider, we will describe it here before it takes effect.
