Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure

This page explains how Solar & Battery Guide makes money, or in our current case, does not, and the rules we will follow if that changes. We follow the spirit and letter of the Federal Trade Commission's guidance on endorsements and disclosures: if a relationship could affect how you view our content, you should know about it.

Where we stand today

As of the date at the top of this page:

• No advertising. The site shows no display ads, sponsored posts or paid placements.
• No affiliate links. None of our links earn us a commission.
• No referral or lead fees. We do not sell your contact details, and installers and lenders do not pay us when you request a quote or sign a contract.
• No sponsored content. No company has paid for, reviewed or approved any guide or calculator.

The site is currently funded by its publisher.

What may change

To keep the site free, we may in the future add one or more of the following:

• Affiliate links, where we could earn a commission if you click a link and buy or request a service, such as comparing quotes or financing.
• Advertising, such as display ads placed on pages.

We have not done either yet. If we do, this page will be updated first, with the date of the change.

How paid links and ads will be labeled

If we add any paid relationship, we commit to these rules:

1. Clear labels where they appear. Affiliate links and ads will be labeled on the page itself, near the link or ad, with plain words such as "Paid link" or "Advertisement", not only on this page.
2. Technical tagging. Paid links will carry rel="sponsored" so search engines can recognize them.
3. Separation from editorial content. Ads will be visually distinct from our guides and calculators.
4. No pay for coverage. Payments will never decide whether a company is mentioned, how it is described or where it ranks.
5. No change to the math. Calculator defaults, formulas and results will never be adjusted to favor a paid partner.
6. No sensitive targeting. We will not use personal information for targeted advertising without the consent required by law, and we will honor opt-outs, including Global Privacy Control signals.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team decides what to cover and what to conclude based on primary sources, as described in our editorial policy. Advertisers and partners will not see, review or approve content before it is published. If a guide recommends caution about a type of product or contract, that advice stays even if a partner sells that product.

Equipment and brand mentions

We sometimes mention equipment types or, rarely, manufacturer names when needed to explain a fact. These mentions are not paid and are not endorsements.
